General

  • What are the differences between your programs?

The main differences between our programs are the length of stay and the number of guests participating with you.

All programs at The Ranch Malibu begin on Sundays and require a 6-night/7-day minimum stay with options to add a Saturday before and/or after your program or to visit for multiple weeks.

While The Ranch Malibu is a group experience, limited to 25 guests participating together in our wellness program, Malibu also offers a more personalized option with The Ranch Private. This program is ideal for those who wish to completely customize their stay with as much interaction with the other guests on property as desired. We tailor the program to meet your specific needs, increasing intensity or addressing any restrictions that may limit your ability to participate in our group-based programs. All elements of our program including hiking, meals and fitness classes can take place separately from the larger group.

For The Ranch Hudson Valley, guests can choose between either a 3-night, 4-day (Monday – Thursday) or 4-night, 5-day (Thursday –Monday) program. This is a group experience with up to 25 guests in each program and there is also the opportunity to select from three different room types for your accommodations.

It is highly recommended that guests purchase travel insurance so you are protected should you need to cancel your stay.

  • How far in advance should I book?

We recommend booking The Ranch Malibu and The Ranch Hudson Valley programs 3-6 months prior to your desired week to ensure availability.

  • DO YOU HAVE ANY PROGRAMS THAT ARE LESS THAN ONE WEEK?

Yes! Guests can now make reservations for a 3-night, 4-day, or 4-night, 5-day program at our new location in Hudson Valley which opens in the Spring.

  • CAN I PICK MY OWN START DATE?

Because our programs are meant to be done as a group experience, we ask that all guests arrive and depart on the same day. In Malibu, weeklong programs begin on Saturday or Sunday depending on your length of stay.

In Hudson Valley, programs begin either Monday or Thursday depending on your chosen program.

  • Are couples welcome?

Yes! Couples are welcome and can choose to share a room or have private accommodations.

In Malibu, shared accommodations start at a rate of $7,600 per person for the weeklong group program and $9,200 per person for separate accommodations.

  • How many guests do you take in each program?

The Ranch Malibu and The Ranch Hudson Valley programs are limited to 25 guests. By keeping our programs small, we are able to ensure a personalized and intimate experience.

The Ranch Private, which is exclusively offered in Malibu, is limited to two groups of 1-4 guests (traveling together) each week so as not to interfere with the larger group participating in the weeklong program

  • How do I know if I am able to do your programs?

Our programs are designed to accommodate a wide range of fitness levels with all activities meant to be done at your own pace. Guests are able to opt in or out of any programming they wish. Six weeks prior to your visit you will complete a health questionnaire which will be reviewed by our trained fitness staff who will follow up with a brief consultation if needed. We also send our 30-Day Pre-Arrival Program to each guest to help them prepare for their visit.

To maximize your experience, we also recommend that in the weeks preceding your visit, you abstain from using alcohol, tobacco, artificial sweeteners, and excessive use of sugar and dairy products, as they tend to compound the discomfort the body might feel as we detoxify and cleanse. By eliminating these items weeks prior to your visit, you reduce the potential discomfort associated with the detoxification process.

If you would like a more personalized approach, our Ranch Private program in Malibu can be tailored to meet your specific needs, increasing or decreasing intensity and addressing any restrictions that may limit your ability to participate in our group programs.

  • What are the hikes and terrain like?

Guests can choose between a varied 2- or 4-hour hike each day.

In Malibu, some are single-track lanes, others are wide Fire Trails that a car can drive down. Some have shade, others have no coverage. As we are in the mountains, we have uphills, downhills, and flats. The steepest climbs are almost 18% grade, but those last for about 1 mile. Some inclines last longer, but aren’t as steep. We typically gain between 1,500-2,400 feet in elevation over the entire hike.

In Hudson Valley, guests have the opportunity to explore nearly 45,000 acres of hiking in the area. Set between multiple state parks, with one just steps from the property, the area offers many well-maintained and marked paths with varying difficulty levels.

Modifications can always be made for guests based on fitness level and hiking ability.

  • What type of food will I be eating?

Our plant-based diet draws inspiration from around the world and uses seasonal, organic ingredients to delight the senses and fuel the body. Daily menus feature the finest fruits, vegetables, grains, pulses, legumes, and seeds while excluding animal protein, alcohol, processed sugars, diet sweeteners, dairy, soy, and gluten to aid in the cleansing and revitalization process.

  • Can I adjust my portions at mealtimes?

We are mindful of portion sizes, which can easily be adjusted and increased for those not desiring or in need of fat or weight loss.

  • Can you accommodate allergies?

We can accommodate most allergies. Our menu is naturally free from animal protein, dairy, gluten, sugar, artificial sweeteners, and soy. While we can avoid nuts for those who are allergic, our facility is not a nut-free facility and there may be cross-contamination.

For more information please contact guestrelations@theranchmalibu.com.

  • What is the appropriate clothing and gear to bring?

We recommend casual clothing that allows you to be comfortable. Clothing with the ability to wick moisture from the skin is best. A pair of broken-in workout/training shoes AND hiking shoes/trail runners, a sun hat, bug spray, hydration system (camelback that holds at least 100 oz. of water), and more. We provide a full packing list to guests when they confirm their reservation.

We discourage formal attire, jewelry, and accessories of high worth or significant sentimental value. We encourage you to pack light and bring only items you need to help allow for a complete and total disconnect from the ‘grid.’

  • What is the weather during the different seasons?

In Malibu, we do experience seasonal weather, our climate is very temperate and moderate. In the Fall, Winter, and early Spring months, daytime temperatures can range from the mid-40s to the mid-70s. Some evenings do become cool with temperatures that can dip into the 40s. In the late spring and summer months, daytime temperatures can range from the mid-60s and peak in the low 90s. Evenings tend to be warmer in these months and may average in the mid-to-low 60s.

In Hudson Valley, the region experiences four distinct seasons.  Spring brings milder weather, with temperatures from the high 40s to the mid-60s. Summers are warm, with daytime temperatures typically between the mid-70s and mid-80s. Fall offers a crisp climate with temperatures around the 60s to 40s, and the area is known for beautiful fall foliage. Winters can be chilly, with temperatures often ranging from the low 20s to the mid-30s.

At each of our properties, we hike in rain and snow as long as conditions are safe for guests. If at any point we are unable to hike, we will bring the program indoors with additional fitness, including spin classes and yoga.

  • What if I have never experienced a program of this nature?

We maintain a nurturing and supportive environment. Our highly trained and professional staff will be there every step of the way to help each guest, no matter their skill or experience level. Each of our experienced instructors is familiar with a wide range of abilities and adapts the program to the intensity and skill level of each guest.

  • Can I get hurt?

Our guests’ safety is a top priority. The instruction and guidance given during the various daily programs have been designed first and foremost with safety in mind. By simply following the instructions, direction, and guidance of our expert staff, the risk of injury or incident is greatly diminished. We pay close attention to all necessary safety details and continuously update and improve our precautionary systems and plans. Should anything out of the ordinary occur, our staff is professionally trained and equipped to handle a range of medical emergency scenarios.

  • What if I do not want to lose any weight?

Many of our guests are seeking a healthy getaway without losing weight. We provide larger portions and additional snacks in guest rooms to help prevent weight loss. Given the demands of our daily program, we cannot guarantee you will not lose any weight but will do our best to supplement additional portions. If you have questions regarding this please contact guestrelations@theranchmalibu.com.

  • How should I expect to feel by the end of the program?

The program is designed to help you physically and mentally detoxify. Towards the end of your visit, many guests experience amplified mental clarity, increased strength and energy, a sense of calm, and personal empowerment.

  • Am I able to leave during my stay?

The Ranch programs are designed to deliver transformational results through a results-oriented approach in an isolated environment.  As such, guests are asked to remain in the program/on-property throughout their stay to garner maximum results and not disrupt the experience of their fellow guests.

Should guests need to leave the program for personal reasons, we will do our best to accommodate them.

  • Can I have visitors while in the program?

The Ranch offers a private, intimate experience for just 25 guests each week.  In order to maintain this secluded atmosphere and minimize outside distractions for all of our guests, we do not allow visits from anyone not registered in the program.

  • Do you allow takeover weeks and can the program be tailored for any fitness level?

Yes!  We welcome guests to reserve any of our programs and bring their friends for the ultimate private experience. In this case, we can tailor the program to handle the group’s fitness level and needs.  This can include corporate executives, YPO Forums, mother/daughter groups, friends, bridal parties, sorority groups, large families, etc.

For more information please visit our Ranch Buyout and Corporate Wellness programs to see if a takeover program is right for you.

  • What kind of results can I expect?

While each person’s physiology, metabolism and general health is different, guests should expect results. The best results usually come from the guests who participate fully in the 30-Day Pre Arrival Program, attend all programming, and stay in motion most of the day.

  • Can you book a private weeklong experience?

Yes! The Ranch Private is ideal for those who wish to escape to nature and experience the lasting results of our award-winning program, but with a personalized approach that is distant from the other guests on property. • Will I have the ability to check in with my family and business?

During your stay at The Ranch, you are asked to ‘unplug’ from your everyday normal activities as your experience will be far more profound and meaningful if you can allow yourself the week to focus your energies towards being present in the natural serene surroundings with others on the same path of health and wellness. For those guests that need to stay connected, wi-fi service is available in your private guest cottage, but we ask that you do not bring electronic devices to public spaces so as not to disturb those choosing to unplug completely.  The Ranch also has a communication center (it is called our Library) where you are free to check in to personal and business needs during breaks in the program. The communication center needs to be shared by everyone in the program.

  • Can the program aid in smoking cessation?

Due to the nature of the program, all guests go through a detoxification process early in the week ridding one’s body of various toxins. No tobacco use of any kind is permitted during a guest’s stay and the rigorous program seems to support the cessation of tobacco use, as well as other addictive habits. There has been a very high success ratio of guests seeking to cease their smoking after attending the weeklong program.

  • Do you allow takeover weeks and can the program be tailored for any fitness level?

Yes!  We allow guests to reserve the entire week and bring their friends, families or colleagues for an incredibly private and tailored experience on our property.

  • What kind of results can i expect?

While each person’s physiology, metabolism and general health is different, guests should expect results. Most guests lose inches and pounds of fat, add lean muscle mass and gain mental clarity. Guests routinely say that the daily and routine care from the staff allows them to focus inward and rediscover themselves. The best results usually come from the guests who fully participate in the 30-Day Pre Arrival Program, attend all programming, and are active most of the day.

Many take their phones/cameras on the hikes to capture the natural beauty.
